Why Goat's Milk?

Posted by Eileen Harcourt on

Sometimes, life nudges us in a direction we never expected, and if we’re fortunate, we find ourselves exactly where we’re meant to be. My journey to Sharon Springs was just that—unexpected yet utterly perfect. My love for animals and an enduring quest for flawless skin led me to Farmer John and his delightful goats, sparking a passion that would forever change my approach to skincare.

I often reflect on whether it was the goat or the milk that came first in my story. My lifelong fascination with skincare has always guided me, from raiding the family pantry to concoct homemade masks as a teen to developing innovative products in the heart of New York City. In fact, back in 2001, I was among the first to incorporate cow’s milk into skincare formulations (thank you, Henri Bendel). Yet, my research on milk’s benefits kept circling back to one thing: goat’s milk.

The Revelation of Goat’s Milk

Goat’s milk is nothing short of a miracle. I first discovered its profound benefits while using it on my NYC facial clients, and the results spoke volumes. Its anti-inflammatory properties, nourishing proteins, and gentle exfoliating alpha hydroxy acids made it a favorite for both me and my clients. Even backstage at Fashion Week, goat’s milk yogurt became my secret weapon—soothing burns, calming skin, and sparking my imagination.

But I wanted more than just goat’s milk products. I wanted the milk straight from the source. And that’s where life led me to Sharon Springs, to Farmer John, and to a herd of goats that changed everything.

What Makes Goat’s Milk Extraordinary?

Goat’s milk is a powerhouse of skin-loving nutrients, each playing a vital role in creating radiant, healthy skin:

  • Micronutrients and Vitamins: Rich in vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, C, D, and E, goat’s milk rejuvenates the skin and promotes its natural glow.
  • Minerals: Selenium, zinc, copper, and iron nourish and protect, with selenium offering antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, especially against UV damage.
  • Fat Molecules and Glycerin: These provide intense moisturization, forming a protective barrier to keep skin hydrated, smooth, and supple.
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids: Gentle yet effective, these acids naturally exfoliate, encouraging new cell growth without irritation.
  • Antibacterial Proteins: Ideal for soothing blemishes and calming conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea.

It’s no wonder goat’s milk soap is renowned for its gentleness—perfect even for the most sensitive skin types. Beyond its benefits, it brings an unparalleled joy to the simple act of washing, especially when infused with delightful scents and my personal favorite blends.
